    Description
Area 5C This course is an exploration of the chemistry of art and art media. Students will investigate, through a variety of lecture and laboratory activities, the scientific basis of paints, dyes, photography, fresco, metalworking, fabric, polymers, glass work, art preservation/restoration, art forgery, and chemical hazards in art. Chemical concepts such as the atomic nature of matter, molecules, elements, compounds, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, intermolecular forces, acids and bases, solubility, spectroscopy, oxidation and reduction, and carbon chemistry will be discussed as they apply to the chemical nature of art.
