It is designed to provide a basic overview of organic chemistry and biochemistry. The organic chemistry portion includes the chemistry and properties of organic functional groups and their applications in biological systems. The biochemistry portion emphasizes the structure and function of carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins and their regulation in the body. This course is primarily designed for majors in the allied health fields (nursing, dental hygiene, physical therapy, etc.), natural resources, environmental technology, and physical education.
