Covers strategies for analyzing film's formal elements (composition and design within the frame, the shot, editing, and sound synchronization and sound mixing of the human voice, music, and sound effects, including environmental and ambient sound) and narrative structures. Provides instruction on discussing, researching, and writing about film as a complex form of creative expression rooted within history, society, and culture. Discussion is supported by American and international examples of feature, documentary, and experimental film. This honors course offers an enriched experience for accelerated students through limited class size, seminar format, focus on primary texts, and application of higher level critical thinking skills. Students may not receive credit for both FST-1 and FST-1H. 54.00 hours lecture. (Letter grade or Pass/No Pass option)
