Description: This course is the first of a sequence for students to focus on the development of theory and musicianship skills in both traditional notation and digital audio workstation (DAW) tablature. Through guided writing and analysis of popular electronic music, this course incorporates the following concepts: rhythm and meter; basic properties of sound; intervals; diatonic scales and triads; diatonic chords, basic cadential formulas, and phrase structure; dominant seventh; and non-harmonic tones. The course also develops beginning-level aural skills, sight-reading, sight-singing, as well as dictation and rhythmic interpretation skills.
