Students examine topics such as female authorship, literary influence, the evolution of technique, effects of race and class, and the historic and cultural environments in which works were written. Stress is placed on critical thinking, critical reading, and composing. Feminist, literary, and political theory are explored. Special emphasis may be placed on a period, genre, theme, or literary grouping.
