It is advised that students be able to engage in written composition at a college level and read college-level texts. Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course is intended for students who want to earn the American Red Cross (A.R.C.) certifications necessary for employment as a pool lifeguard and swimming instructor. The course gives the most current instruction in A.R.C. lifeguard training, first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation/automated external defibrillation (C.P.R./A.E.D.) skills, and Water Safety Instructor (W.S.I.) courses. Upon successful completion, students earn certifications for A.C.R. Lifeguard Training, C.P.R./A.E.D. for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22), and Water Safety Instructor. These certifications enable students to gain eligibility for a pool lifeguarding position, and to teach the Learn-to-Swim programs of the A.R.C. Adequate swimming skills are necessary at the Learn-to-Swim Level 4. Students may petition to re-enroll in the course to renew certifications.
