Description: This course surveys the struggle of Native Americans to maintain their culture in the face of invasion and changing technology. It explores the U.S. government’s Indian policies of removal, pacification, annihilation, and assimilation, and considers issues facing Native Americans today. The course is intended for students who want to understand the role of Native Americans in the historical development of North America and is recommended for all history majors. This course also satisfies a course requirement for the Associate of Arts in History for Transfer (AA-T).
