The course covers the structural components and building techniques associated with heavy timber construction and panelized roof systems, and includes discussions about the advantages of different types of manufactured wood used in these processes, including their load carrying strength, span, and spacing. Emphasis is placed on the distinction between standard post and beam and heavy timber construction. Students interpret floor plan, section views, and drawing elevations for job planning, and to lay out and construct a heavy timber post-and-beam-supported panelized roof.
