The course investigates the development and evolution of language, the structure and sound systems of different languages, language loss and conservation, and the variations in different languages such as dialects and the social situations in which they are used. The different forms of verbal and non-verbal communication are studied across cultures with special attention paid to the use of technology like social media and the problems that arise in communication between people of different classes, genders, and ethnicities in our globalized world.
