Total lecture 54 hours. This course provides an overview of the causes, symptoms and treatments of psychological disorders based on the biological, cognitive, and behavioral theoretical perspectives. Focus is on the description, classification and assessment of anxiety disorders, mood disorders, substance abuse and addiction, eating disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, personality disorders, and sexual disorders. It incorporates use of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, 5th ed., (DSM-5), and discussions of legal issues pertaining to civil and criminal commitment. Approved pass/no pass grading option.
