A survey of the history of Mexican Americans from Pre-Columbian roots to the present day. The course will focus on lived experiences, social and cultural interactions, contributions, struggles, and achievements to better understand the significance of Mexican Americans in the United States. Topics addressed include the intersection of race and ethnicity with other forms of difference affected by hierarchy and oppression, such as class, gender, sexuality, religion, spirituality, national origin, immigration status, ability and/or age. The course also will explore both historical and current resistance and social justice movements along with contemporary issues affecting Mexican American populations.
