    Description
    African American experience from Reconstruction to the present. Topics include Reconstruction and Jim Crow policies; political/cultural movements and famous leaders; Great Migration and urban vs. rural experience; pan-Africanism and global connections; efforts in the world wars; Civil Rights and Black Power movements; political influence, arts and culture; and systemic racism from the 19th through 21st centuries. Emphasis placed on class, gender, sexuality, interethnic, and transnational relations. No credit if taken after ETH 061B or HIST 029B. Total of 54 hours lecture. Formerly HIST 029B.
