Transfers ToUC and CSUCal-GETC Area 1B · IGETC Area 1B · CSU GE Area A3DescriptionIn this course, students receive instruction in critical thinking for purposes of constructing, evaluating, and composing arguments in a variety of rhetorical forms, using primarily non-fiction texts, refining writing skills and research strategies developed in ENGL C1000 Academic Reading and Writing (C-ID ENGL 100) or similar first-year college writing course. Principles of critical thinking applied to writing and reading on complex issues which incorporate logic, inductive and deductive reasoning, the critique of logical fallacies, persuasion, analysis and evaluation of appropriate prose models, including those employing argument, other rhetorical modes, and critical thinking strategies specific to various modes of thought. Selective use of citation and documentation. No credit if taken after ENGL C1001H, ENGL 001C, or ENGL 001CH. Formerly ENGL 001C.
