    Description
    Introduces the variations in development of children with disabilities ages birth through eight. Provides an overview of special education in the United States, including the historical antecedents, legislation, the identification and referral process, as well as discussion of societal, family, and classroom issues relevant to children with disabilities. Focus is on fostering understanding and respect for those who have disabilities, their families, and the professionals that serve them. This course does not focus on classroom teaching strategies specifically, rather it is an overview of the inclusive education system in the US.
