Students will learn about: native cultures; European exploration, conquest, and colonization; independence movements; and the political, economic, and social challenges of establishing new Latin American nations. The course will also examine recent trends like globalization, immigration, the illegal drug trade, radical political movements, and U.S.-Latin American relations.
