    Description
This course introduces students to the cultural, historical, and linguistic aspects of the Deaf community in the United States. Students will explore the development of Deaf identity, values, social norms, and communication within Deaf culture. Topics include the role of American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf education, audism, Deafhood, Deaf Gain, and diversity within Deaf communities. The course emphasizes understanding the Deaf community as a cultural and linguistic minority rather than as a disability group.
