The course provides an overview of political and public policy issues--historical and current--that affect politically- and socially-disadvantaged groups in the United States. These groups include (but are not limited to) African Americans, Asian Americans, Latina/o Americans, Native Americans, the LGBTQ+ community, and women. Using intersectionality as a framework, the course examines the political representation, identity, status, and power of these traditionally-marginalized groups.
