Key topics include the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, Black contributions to the American Revolution, the shaping of the United States Constitution, the experiences of Black Americans during the antebellum period, and the Civil War and Reconstruction. Field trips to local sites may be required as part of this course, including to the African American Museum and Library in Oakland; the Oakland Museum of California; and the Museum of the African Diaspora.
