    Offered: Spring Semester, Even Years This course is an introduction to the history of modern East Asia from 1600 to the present, focusing on the intersecting histories of China, Japan, and Korea. The course emphasizes the development of political, economic, and cultural traditions in East Asia as part of a larger story of global change in the modern period, with special attention paid to revolutionary movements; governmental structure; the influence of Europe and the United States on regional economies and statecraft; and literary and artistic production.
