Students examine the cultural, political, and economic practices that lead to musical responses by Native American, African American, Asian American, and/or Latina and Latino American musicians and communities. Students analyze musical content and social movements located within the United States and globally/transnationally. Students have the opportunity to attend local musical performances and interact with local musicians to learn about the role of ethnic identity, struggle, and self-determination are present in their performances.
