Transfers ToCSUCSU GE Area B2DescriptionOffered: All Terms, Every Year This course aims to provide students with fundamental background knowledge about cancer biology. The course starts out seeking answers to the most commonly asked questions about cancer. This is followed by presentation of basic biological concepts as it relates to cancer. The course provides students with the research that has shaped the mechanisms presented as well as current research in each area. Major human cancers are discussed with regards to causative factors, mechanisms, and management. The course also provides students with basic knowledge on cancer pathology and metastasis. Students are exposed to the research that has helped established each possible cause for cancer. Students are expected to be able to understand and analyze primary research papers. Scientific method involving systematic questioning, hypothesis driven experimental design, and data inference, is a constant undercurrent for this course in every module. (GR)
