The criminalization of behavior, criminal enforcement, the judiciary, corrections, crime prevention, diverse cultures and their relationship to demographic characteristics and other societal institutions will be examined in-depth using established sociological concepts, theories and research methodologies. An evaluation of groups and institutions (political, legal, religious, familial, mass media) is central to the characterization and study of criminology and allows students to develop sociological interpretations of Criminology in American society.
