    Description
This course chronologically surveys American writing from the post-Civil War period to the present and examines the work of a wide range of authors and texts from diverse backgrounds, considering race, gender, sexuality, language, and ability. The works will be examined in an historical context and considered in light of the ethnic, literary, geographical, religious, ideological, and political environments within which they were written.
