The development of the dancer's technical, artistic, and expressive dance skills is a primary focus within both classical and contemporary ballet styles. The historical and cultural context of ballet, including European, American, and other influences, with a particular focus on race, culture, gender and identities and historical exclusionary practices are also examined.
