Studies the United States and its major ethnic and social groups. Explores the influence of the geography and environment of North America and the ethnic, social, and religious complexity of the population. Examines political, cultural, philosophical, and intellectual influences on the people and political institutions of the United States. Requires substantial reading and writing assignments. Satisfies the requirement for a course in American history, including the study of American institutions and ideas and the Constitution of the United States as required by Title 5 of the California Administrative Code. An honors course designed to provide an enriched experience. Students may not receive credit for both HIST 7 and HIST 7H .
