    Description: This advanced ESL course, targeting reading, writing and oral language skills, provides an overview of the American public education system (K-12) with emphasis on key federal legislation and state mandates. Topics include PL 94-142, IDEA 2004, ESSA 2017, and the Common Core State Standards. Using academic Standard American Language, pivotal concepts in multicultural and special education such as Free Appropriate Public Education(FAPE) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) are discussed in the context of the roles and responsibilities of teachers and teacher assistants. In addition, career and educational pathways to the teacher and teacher assistant professions are introduced. 24.00 hours lecture. (Pass/No Pass only)
