Examines the functions and structures of belief systems, cross-cultural classifications of religions, shamanism, religious change, and religious systems in global perspective. Analyzes the historical, social, and psychobiological factors that influence the development of religions, and emphasizes the application of cultural relativism when considering other cultures and beliefs.
