    Description
This course is an exploration of how law and government institutions shape the shared understandings of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and gender. Students consider the ways in which the American state acts to privilege some identities rather than others through family law, citizenship, and electoral processes. This course employs comparative methods to consider how concepts of identity are constructed and mobilized within the United States as compared to other nations. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online. [C-ID POLS 170]
