    Description
This course explores how language shapes culture, identity, and thought. Students examine the fundamental structures of language—sounds, words, grammar—and its expressive power through metaphor, irony, humor, and productivity. Using examples from historically significant speeches, poetry, lyrics, and social discourse, students connect linguistic principles with major cultural and political movements, including civil rights, social justice, and equity in representation. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
