    Prerequisite
    Successful completion of the POST Basic Police Academy, POST Basic Certificate, or equivalent. Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding: Familiarity with firearms safety, Familiarity with firearms cleaning and storage techniques, Familiarity with range safety, Knowledge of basic shooting techniques, Familiarity with combat shooting skills, Familiarity with semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, and shotguns, Familiarity with use of force; Participation in advanced officer training courses requires a prerequisite of completion of the following: Commission on Police Officer Standards Training (POST) certified basic law enforcement academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee; state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency. Prior to enrolling in these courses students must already be familiar with and be able to demonstrate all of the skills taught in a basic law enforcement academy.
