    This course is a historical survey of the United States, from Indigenous North America to the end of Reconstruction. The course also introduces students to historical reasoning skills. Using an empathetical approach with diverse viewpoints, the class presents ethnic, racial, political, religious, gender, artistic, international, geographical, economic, social, and cultural influences on the foundational development of the United States. Analysis of both "ordinary" and "extraordinary" individuals and groups surrounding their contributions to the creation of modern America.
