    Description
    This course examines the history and characteristics of the world's major religions. Possible topics include: Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Daoism, Confucianism, Jainism, Shinto, Sikhism, Indigenous Sacred Ways, and Modern religious movements. The course also introduces students to historical reasoning skills. Using an empathetical approach with diverse viewpoints, the class analyzes and compares religious origins, patterns, texts, impacts, and influences through a historical--rather than--a theological lens. Emphasis on using primary and secondary sources in understanding and interpreting the development of global belief systems. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
