    Description
    A survey of Mexican American/Chicano history from the 1800s to the present. This course will address the economic, social, cultural, and political events that have shaped the history of Mexican Americans/Chicanos in the United States with an emphasis on concepts of race and racism, decolonization, racial solidarity, and self-determination. Key political and legislative topics cover the Mexican American Southwest, the U.S.-Mexico War, American Expansionism, U.S. Treaties, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the California Constitution, American Nativism, Mexican Repatriation, WWII, the Bracero Program, the Mexican American Labor Movement, and the Chicano Movement. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
