    Description
This course introduces film and video by examining historical and contemporary movements in the medium, focusing on visual literacy, vernacular practices, and cultural identity. A critical lens will be applied to issues of racism, representation, ethnicity, national origins, gender, and gender identity as they manifest in both historical and contemporary film and video practices. This analysis will encourage students to explore how these factors influence visual narratives and the reception of film and video work today. Students will gain insights into how cultural identity shapes our understanding of photography by engaging with diverse perspectives. Students will enhance their knowledge of the fundamental concepts of film and video and develop a deeper appreciation for the role of visual culture in shaping societal perspectives. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
