    Description
    This course offers students the opportunity to develop, evaluate, and apply critical reading skills and strategies. These strategies include annotating text, separating fact from opinion, analyzing supporting evidence, identifying propaganda techniques and logical fallacies, etc. Students apply attentive, rhetorical, and argumentative reading strategies to a variety of texts. Additional course topics include main ideas, inferred ideas, tone, style, and rhetorical strategies. A minimum of 5,000 words of writing is required. Formal writing includes rhetorical précis and analyses, critical responses, and an argumentative research paper; informal writing includes reading responses, learning reflections, essay drafts, and peer feedback.
