    Description
This course explores the relationship between physical activity, fitness and wellness, and the body’s physiological responses and adaptations, through yoga postures representing a variety of yoga traditions, breathing, and relaxation techniques. Principles of training are applied to design safe and appropriate exercise programs to increase balance, coordination, and flexibility and strength. Proper nutrition, weight management, and stress reduction techniques will be discussed focusing on lifestyle choices and enhancing behaviors to optimize wellness. Through group and individual instruction, and peer interactions, students are provided the opportunity to assess their own fitness and health, skill level, and wellness plan. In discussion and written assignments, students will investigate, present and discuss the veracity of scientific evidence behind fitness-related claims. Students will also learn the historical and eastern religious context of the origin of these yoga traditions and schools.
