Students will focus on a close, analytical reading of texts with the aim of developing a greater awareness and appreciation of the respective styles, poetic strategies (figurative and formal/literal devices), and critical poetic theories, which poets use to develop their work. Exploration and analysis of these texts will encourage a greater understanding of the aesthetic and cultural relevance of the universal and particular themes addressed in each period, leading to an enriched conversation of how these diverse texts speak to and inform our current perceptions.
