    Description
ELIC 100 is an alternative to ENGL C1000E or ENGL C1000 that focuses on development of reading, writing, and critical thinking skills necessary to demonstrate competency in college-level composition for students whose first language is not English. The course provides a highly structured and supportive learning environment that specifically addresses the needs of language learners with regard to vocabulary, editing, language use, and cultural content instruction that often prove especially challenging for multi-lingual students in ENGL C1000E or ENGL C1000 courses. A minimum of 3,000 words of preparatory writing, such as drafts, journals, summaries, and other scaffolded writing assignments, and a minimum of 5,000 words of thesis-driven, polished essay writing, 2,000 words of which must be research-based writing, are required.
