Mechanisms to be addressed are electrophilic and nucleophilic aromatic substitution and nucleophilic acyl substitution and addition. Oxidation and reduction processes will be investigated more thoroughly. Course includes an introduction to biomolecules. Concepts from CHEM 112 will be reinforced. Laboratory includes reactions and multistep synthesis with continued development of analytical techniques, in particular, mass spectrometry, IR and 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Students may not earn credit for both CHEM 113 and CHEM 123.Usually HeldMon Wed 11:55am–1:20pm, Fri 1:30pm–5:35pm, Fri 8:30am–12:35pm, Mon 1:30pm–3:35pm
