We focus on cultural and societal issues within an historical perspective that help us to understand the complex relationship between the United States and Latin America, and ways in which they shape and reshape identities, culture, and citizenship. Aspects of culture, society, and values reflected in art, literature, and music are analyzed. Latinx groups examined include heritage from throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Emerging or changing situations, events, and/or issues may be integrated into the class in any given semester.
