    Description
This course assists students in developing an appreciation and respect for jazz and blues as original and uniquely American art forms. The topic, viewed through historical, cultural, and sociological lenses, focuses upon the evolutionary development of the music and artists responsible for its creation. Students gain an understanding of basic and jazz-specific musical concepts, the profound impact of African-American artists, and how jazz influenced all American popular music.
