It examines the theories and principles of developmentally appropriate practice in early learning environments and emphasizes positive relationships; constructive adult-child interactions; program planning; and culturally responsive, effective teaching strategies that draw upon cultural funds of knowledge in children and families. Topics include the historical roots of early childhood programs; contemporary curriculum models; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and the evolution of professional practices promoting advocacy, ethics, professional identity, and an understanding of career pathways.
