It surveys selected periods of Western and non-Western traditions and emphasizes understanding the visual arts representing the tradition and evolution of a culture, from ancient to contemporary periods. The course incorporates field trips to local artistic landmarks and emphasizes art appreciation in travel experiences. The course includes preparatory lectures and on-site discussions. Students are required to attend several field trips and provide their own transportation to each site. Field trip dates and locations will be announced on the first class meeting.
