The history and development of the sub-genres will also be examined as well as the contributions of the mystery and detective novel to the evolution of literature in general. Since mystery and detective novels reward a close reading and celebrate the powers of observation, they offer an excellent opportunity to examine readings in depth while exercising the highest level of critical thinking.
