    Description
Our culture shapes the ways we think about health and sickness. Evolution and the environment affect our bodies and our diseases in complex ways. This class uses the interconnection of evolution, ecology, and culture to understand human well-being from an anthropological perspective. Topics will include biological perspectives on individualized medicine, genetic correlates of disease, and disease virulence; biocultural perspectives on life history stages, plagues, and pandemics; and cultural perspectives on chronic illness, mental health, and the role of religion in human healing and illness.
