Transfers ToCSUDescriptionThis course provides an introduction to the principles of pollution prevention and waste minimization. Students will be introduced to the federal and state of California laws, and concepts of sustainability and resources recovery. Quantities and types of wastes generated in the United States and methods of managing the wastes generated (advantages and disadvantages) will be covered, including landfill disposal, materials recovery and incineration. Federal, state and local programs to prevent, reduce and recycle wastes will be introduced and discussed. Students will apply the principles presented in class to develop a pollution prevention/waste minimization plan.
