    Description
    This course is an ethnographic survey of the peoples and cultures of the African continent. It will examine classic anthropological topics such as gender, religion, economic and political systems. In addition, the course will focus on pre-colonial African societies, the causes and consequences of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, European colonialism, and post-colonial development efforts. Central contemporary issues such as globalization, urbanization, conflict, and health will be examined. ART
