This course surveys the historical and cultural development of children's literature and includes critical approaches and the examination of shared themes that cross geographical boundaries. Students analyze both classic and contemporary works spanning different cultures in order to understand how evolving historical, social, political, and theoretical attitudes toward childhood have shaped the field of chil- dren's literature.
