    Description
    Formerly CO SCI 546. Credit not given for both courses. Prerequisite: CS 130 or CO SCI 516 with a grade of "C" or better. Students study design of the main memory systems, including considerations of caching, error detection, and error correction; CPU design, including binary arithmetic, floating point, register usage, and a comparison of different addressing schemes; bus design, including its use in I/O; and performance-enhancing innova- tions such as superscalar architecture, pipelining, and multiprocessing. Student develop programs simulating or using various architectural features studied.
