    3 UNITS Prerequisite: None | Advisory: ENGL C1000 or ENGLISH 101X or 101Y or 101Z or E.S.L. 110 | Lecture: 3 hours This course surveys the historical and cultural development of children's literature and includes critical approaches and the examination of shared themes that cross cultural and geograph- ical boundaries. Students read both classic and contemporary works (including picture books, folktales, fantasy, and modern realism) spanning cultures and time periods and reflect on the significance of a genre written specifically for children.
